UK Annotated Statutes give you the insight you need, when you need it most.

Authority and currency

Our team of experts will monitor the legal environment and capture any key changes that affect the interpretation of legislation. UK Annotated Statutes will be updated in line with such changes to ensure that your research material is up to date when you need it.

What's included?

Important Westminster Acts and Scottish Acts from 2007 onwards will be annotated. Key legacy statutes including the Data Protection Act 1998, the Human Rights Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000 will also be covered.

Pre-2007 legislation will be annotated on an ongoing basis

Simplify the challenge of interpretation

Annotations are provided at provision level and help you find your way around a statute. Linguistic anomalies and structural difficulties are highlighted and discussed, so you can see how to apply the law in practice.

Parliamentary intention will be analysed by reference to external materials - such as Hansard and Explanatory Notes - providing an insight into how the courts might interpret specific provisions.

They will cover:
  • Effect and purpose
  • Terms defined
  • Judicial consideration
  • Possible ambiguity
  • Human Rights application
  • Derivation or origin of an enactment
  • Pepper v Hart notes

General Notes Library

Where appropriate the annotations for a given statute will also refer to the General Notes Library, which deals with issues arising routinely in legislation. These notes provide a vital tool when researching legislation.
